We are the Pittsburgh Rebels, also known as Somali Bantu Soccer Team of Pittsburgh!

The senior players and captains are role models and mentors on the field and off, helping each other with school, finding jobs, and other avenues to get ahead in life.  Although we are called the Somali Bantu Soccer Team, we have diversity within the team. We have seven players from Burundi, one player from Tanzania, two from United States, one from Cameroon, and one from Congo.

We currently have one female player on the team but we are looking to add more. This year alone we played in three different tournaments, and made it to the finals on two occasions.  We also played seven friendly matches and are scheduled for one more tournament in Lansing MI.

Our mission is to play together as a family, stay away from bad influences, and lead and mentor our young brothers and sisters.  Our coach is Omar Muya and captains are Yussuf Muya, and Abdikudar Masakirira.  We are a group of individuals who have been playing soccer all our lives. We live, breathe, love, and cherish soccer and also use the game as a tool to show leadership and to mentor others.

For the past five years and still counting Pittsburgh Soccer In the Community have been very generous, in providing field time every weekend from 8:30pm - 11:30pm at The Neighborhood Academy and also assist  us with cost for tournament entry fees, jerseys, and soccer equipment.  Most off our players live in Northview Heights and for them to be able to play soccer every weekend nights at an indoor facility really means a lot.  They stay away from bad influences, at the same time getting better at soccer, spending time with other soccer lovers and with people that really want them to succeed in life and will help them get there.

This gathering has been so fundamental and successful, since it first started all of our senior players graduated from High School and are either in college or have graduated from college.  We hold a meeting called the Young Leadership Circle every Sunday where we meet outside of soccer to talk about leadership, schools, jobs and how we can help and better each other. This gathering for open to anyone who is a soccer lover, wants mentors, and wants to learn leadership.

This is a year round gathering and everyone is welcomed!
