Summer Job Opportunity: Youth Coach-Mentors

Pittsburgh Soccer in the Community (PSC) is seeking coaches who serves as mentors and role models and lead soccer programs for children ages 7-15 from diverse socioeconomic and geographic backgrounds. Coach-mentors use a sport-based youth development methodology in soccer-based sessions which occur as part of summer camps provided by youth-serving organizations in and around the city of Pittsburgh. Coach-mentors are available for at least 1 program (typically 2 days per week for 6-8 weeks). PSC will provide training and support.

 

Responsibilities

  • planning for soccer sessions

  • leading discussions on life skills topics

  • instructing on basic soccer skills

  • keeping records (i.e. attendance and survey administration)

  • providing additional feedback for participant engagement

 

Skills and Expectations

  • experience working as summer camp counselors and/or youth sports coach preferred

  • experience in leadership and/or mentoring roles

  • experience working with diverse populations

  • knowledge of the game of soccer

  • availability in mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekends (at least one time of day)

  • able to provide your own reliable transportation

  • able to obtain/maintain updated PA required clearances for working with children

 

Projected Timeline

Applications are open now! Interviews will begin in May. We are still finalizing program details with partners, so we are unable to confirm exact dates and times at this point, however we will confirm and share before interviews. Programs start mid-June and run through mid-August.
